November 13, 2011 - CSN’s Bracketologist has issued his final projections by trying to anticipate the RPI adjustments that will occur based on this week’s results and by applying the information now available regarding conference champions.  The Bracketologist has projected the forty-eight teams in the 2011 NCAA Tournament field, the sixteen seeds, and the match-ups.  The NCAA selection committee will announce the 2011 NCAA Tourney field on Monday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m.  The selection show will be streamed online at www.NCAA.com.

* CSN’s Bracketologist uses the following process:

A. The twenty-two automatic qualifiers are determined by taking each school that is currently in first place in its conference.  In the event two teams are tied with identical conference records, the team that has the highest RPI is selected.

B. Seeds, home teams, and at large selections in general are selected largely using the RPI ratings.  Consideration is also given to geographical location and cost containment strategies, meaning an attempt is made to keep first round matches within driving distance and also second round match-ups against seeded teams.

NOTE: The RPI will change dramatically as the season progresses. As the sample size of  teams’ seasons becomes larger, additional criteria such as a  team’s record in the final five to eight games and home vs. away record can also become more influential.

The projections are not reflective of any national polls produced by any media outlet nor are they attempting to gauge who the best teams are.  Rather, they are designed to predict which teams would be selected to the NCAA Tournament by the NCAA if the selection was to be made at this moment.
