College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending November 10, 2013

Kyle Parker - Sophomore - Forwad - Charlotte

Parker scored two goals to lead the 49ers to a 3-0 victory over FIU.  He has now found the back of the net eleven times to date including seven times in Charlotte's last four contests. The red hot 49ers improve to 9-5-3 and will enter the CUSA Tourney which they are hosting at Transamerica Field on a five game winning streak.  

Vince Cicciarelli - Junior - Forward - Notre Dame

Don't overlook the contribution that Cicciarelli has had on the success that Notre Dame has enjoyed this year.  After missing almost all of the 2012 campaign due to injury, Cicciarelli has been an impact player for the Irish in 2013.  This week he scored the insurance goal in Notre Dame's 2-0 win over Michigan State and also scored from seven yards out to help the Irish top Pitt 2-0.   

Mason Robertson - Freshman - Forward - Washington

Robertson displayed decisiveness and skill when he produced two huge game-winning goals for Washington.  In the Huskies 2-0 win over Stanford he headed in a corner kick served in by Justin Schmidt. He also drove a Michael Harris flip-throw that deflected off a defender into the back of the net in overtime in Washington's 2-1 come from behind win over California.  The Huskies are 13-1-4 overall with a 6-1-2 record in Pac-12 play.  

Pmare Te Anau - Junior - Midfielder - Albany

Te Anau was the catalyst on the offensive side of the ball playing a key role in Albany's largest goal output since the 2008 season. He scored twice to help power the Great Danes past Vermont 5-1.  Te Anau and his Albany teammates now advance to face UMBC in a semi-final match in the America East Tournament.   

Chris Thorsheim - Sophomore - Midfielder - Bucknell

Thorsheim was responsible for two game-winning goals.  He converted a penalty kick in Bucknell's 1-0 win over Hartwick.  He also scored in overtime to enable the Bison to top Boston Univeristy 1-0.  He has scored a total of eight goals so far this year.  Bucknell improves to 12-5-1 overall with a 5-3-1 record in Patriot League play.  

Cyle Larin - Freshman - Midfielder - Connecticut

Larin, who hails from  Brampton, Ontario, continues to make plays for the Huskies. This week he scored twice to help UConn thump SMU 5-0.  His first goal was from the top of the box.  His second score was a well played chip shot over the top of the keeper after receiving a through ball from teammate Adria Beso.  Connecticut improves to 10-2-5 and extends their unbeaten streak to twelve.  

Aodhan Quinn - Senior - Midfielder - Akron

Quinn scored twice to lead Akron to a 2-1 come from behind win over Big Ten foe Penn State.  He skillfully drove a shot from the top of the box inside the right post out of a free kick.  Quinn also produced the game-winning goal in the 106th minute when he placed a shot into the left corner of the goal out of an indirect kick. Akron also topped Western Michigan 2-1 in overtime to improve to 14-3-1 and claim the MAC regular season title with a 5-1-0 mark in conference play.  

Jon Roeckle - Senior - Defender - Saint Louis 

Roeckle's first two goals of the season were huge and helped the Billikens top Massachusetts 2-1. He drove a picture perfect shot into the top right corner of the net out of a direct kick from twenty-two yards out and placed a shot just inside the far post with an assist from teammate Marco Heskamp.  Saint Louis captured the Atlantic 10 regular season title with a 6-0-2 mark in conference play and the number one seed in the upcoming A-10 tournament.  

Joseph Greenspan - Junior - Defender - Navy 

 

Greenspan continues to come up with big plays at Navy.  This week he scored out of a free kick in the 106th minute of play off a double assist from Martin Sanchez and Dave Arnold to give the Mids the edge they needed to top Army 1-0.  An enthusiastic crowd of 7,416 was on hand at PPL Park to witness the contest. Navy improves to 13-3-2 with a 9-0-0 mark in Patriot League play.  The Mids continue to steam forward in their quest to return the program to the NCAA 'Tourney field after a twenty-five year absence.   

Kyle Venter - RS Senior - Defender - New Mexico 

Venter was part of a very solid New Mexico defensive effort that shutout Kentucky 2-0. He also contributed on the offensvie side of the ball by driving a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick served in by teammate senior Michael Calderon.  The Lobos are 11-4-2 overall and win the Conference USA regular season title with a 7-1-1 mark in league play in their inagural campaign as a member of the conference.    

David Greczek - Freshman - Goalkeeper - Rutgers

Greczek had nine big saves Saturday night including a stop of a penalty kick to enable the Scarlet Knights to shutout highly regarded Louisville 1-0 in a quarterfinal match of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Dan Donigan stated, "David (Greczek) made some huge saves for us, including stopping a penalty kick in the first half."  Sophomore Mael Corboz scored the game-winning goal for a Rutgers squad that stays alive in the conference tournament.
